Fargo (Season 1)
I just binged watched FX’s Fargo, season one, and I’ve got to tell you I got sucked into this show! Joel and Ethan Cohen put their magical spin on another twisted tail from the upper Midwest state, and just like their 1996 black comedy, this is a visual treat!
This time we’re treated to the “real life crime” of Lorne Malvo (Billy Bob Thornton) and the murder spree he went on, entangling the lives of many in a Minnesota town. Malvo’s runs into insurance salesman Lester Nygaard (Martin Freeman); Officer Molly Solverson (Alison Tolman), the daughter of former chief (Keith Carradine); and single father Duluth Deputy Gus Grimly (Colin Hanks). Other stars include grocery chain owner Stavros Milos (Oliver Platt), widow Gina Hess (Kate Walsh– who I’ve never really been a fan of, but she did an excellent job with her role), and Deputy Bill Oswalt (Bob Odenkirk). The show is really packed with a stellar cast, all who do an amazing job with their Minnesota accents.
I completely sunk my teeth into this dark thriller with perfectly timed comedic touches. Some scenes have you cringing at their brutal violence, but others have you laughing. There’s even a love story to boot. Oh. That’s another thing. You can pretty much guarantee that you’ll find yourself slipping into the accent yourself after spending some time with this series.
All in all, if you were a fan of the original Oscar winning movie, you’re gonna love this series. You betcha.
