Lucky me. It’s editing time.
I always thought I knew what editing was all about, but that’s only because I’ve never tackled editing something this enormous before! Currently, I’m chopping away at THE RETURN yet again, and, oh boy, is it ever painful! I’ve heard people call the things they’ve created their babies before, but honestly I never really understood all that until now.
When I sat down and started writing this story I didn’t have any idea how long a book was supposed to be. Heck, I didn’t think I’d ever even finish the darn thing! I thought it’d end up in my half-written novel graveyard as so many pieces before it had.
But finish it I did!
At 180,000-something words later!
I’ve now learned that that’s just way too long. So, I grabbed my figurative scalpel and am now slowly hacking away at my baby, chapter by chapter, sentence by sentence, word by word. It’s amazing how I find myself attached to certain phearses or specific words, and the internal struggle that goes on inside of me when I know I have to let them go, even if I don’t want to.
Once it’s done though it’ll be interesting to compare the Wattpad version to the final version of the book. I’m hoping it’s a stark difference, but of course there are certain aspects of the story that I’m praying don’t get lost. I just hope that when I’m finally finished with all of this work, a streamlined, smoother, more amazing story awaits you guys, and it’ll be worth all this pain.
